welcome to security besides San Francisco 2018 so excited to have everybody here hope everybody is able to get registered okay came in okay hopefully much better than last year and that everybody's been enjoying the breakfast it's been a very interesting time getting everything together it's a brand new venue and lots of presents lots of its own challenges but we're getting through it so thanks for working with this today we have a hundred eighty volunteers this year and so many of those are filling but yes thank you many of those are filling multiple roles that besides is an entirely 100% volunteer run event there are no paid people it'd be said San Francisco and so it is put on four and by the community

yeah so we strive to keep information easily accessible there are no attendees that we said since everybody is a participant so we want that everybody can add value to the conversation of course there's 13 staffers that have been working year-round to put this on and I want to give a special clap

and again would not be possible without the support of our sponsors this is San Francisco things are expensive and so I want to thank all of our sponsors especially cloud passage google it hacker one is our three leading sponsors this year a mandatory code of conduct again this is this golden rule but there's absolutely no tolerance for any kind of physical verbal sexual abuse harassment of any human at all code of conduct is in your program but it's basically be excellent to each other that we have and so the golden rule and if you have any kind of issue find any member of the public safety team or any staff member and will escalate that to

our irassman response team we have a new video and photo policy this year is copied from besides Las Vegas but it's basically the gist of it is that you just must have permission from everyone in the photo frame you know and if you're asked by somebody to lead a picture that them do it and crowd shots are generally discouraged so some people you know don't want to be in photos and so we should respect them again we're all participants here and there's no shortage of good topics for conversation there's a lot of stuff going on right now we have the new Georgia law that is I think I believe waiting to be signed which actually creates a new crime for

unauthorized access and that's a very generic phrase and that could affect security researchers just doing normal day-to-day research of course there's increased exposure around the intersection of privacy and security I love Facebook and of course GDP are in the European Union goes into effect next month and so that's a worldwide change because if you are any company worldwide that has European data our personal data you're affected and could be have giant Pines on that so just keep in mind that that not only are there some awesome talks going on to which you should just be talking to each other enjoy lobby Cohn network but we have to have these conversations and hopefully you know find ways to add to the conversation

things to note for Sunday lunch will be from 12:00 to 1:30 we have a raffle during lunch it'll be in track to the women insecurity mixture mixer is at 5:00 p.m. in the bar area the steampunk theme parties tonight at 6:30 looking forward to that it's really cool stuff that we have planned for you that will be in track two and of course check out the awesome villages there's a ton of stuff going on we have lockpick village with the tool blog extreme we have the IOT village we have spymaster challenge we have a living security scape room and in various other things as well and so make sure to check all that stuff out

again don't just the talks are great and you should definitely hear all of them but we're also recording everything and so they'll be online so you should definitely do the hands-on experiences you can and meet people so feedback you know there's a to give feedback if you have any kind of session in Q&A stuff that's all done on peerless session feedback specifically to the organizers on sched and then just general feedback around the conference itself if you go to sort of besides SF org slash feedback you can give that and we really want that we read that you know after the con that plays very heavily into the changes that we make for next year so we do

appreciate every bit of feedback that you give us but above all have fun you're here to enjoy yourself came on a Sunday you know this is your day off and really to appreciate the coming and being able to enjoy the conference so now I'd like to introduce Brian Gordon's the director of vulnerability research with Trend Micro he's going to be speaking on from bounties to bureaucracy the hidden market factors of exploit economics [Applause]
